The Canadian youngster has earned the first individual accolade in his career.
Justin "FaNg" Coakley has been named HLTV.org's Most Valuable Player of the FunSpark ULTI 2020 Europe Final. The Extra Salt rifler clinched the award despite his team's defeat at the hands of BIG in a nail-biting title decider of the $250,000 tournament.
The 18-year-old spearheaded Extra Salt's remarkable campaign at the event with several key performances in upper bracket wins over BIG, Dignitas, and FORZE, before putting up a team-leading 1.19 rating in the best-of-five rematch against the German side.
Across the twelve maps he and his team played at the FunSpark ULTI Europe Final, FaNg garnered some impressive numbers all-around. He averaged the fourth-highest overall rating (1.19) and the third-highest contribution (74.6% KAST), as well as the seventh-most damage (81.5 ADR) and kills (0.75 KPR), along with other notable statistics such as opening kills (0.13 per round).
The Canadian star also stood out as one of the best clutch players of the tournament with seven 1vX scenarios won, four of which he secured in the grand final against BIG alone, including three successful 1v2 situations.
"I would never imagine that I would be playing against some of the best teams in the world, let alone winning MVP of the tournament," FaNg said on Twitter shortly after he received the award. "Wish I could have done it with a win, but I'm only going to put in more work and hit new heights."
